How to get a Library Card

Students and Staff use their ID card as their library card.  (In some cases staff IDs are less than 6 digits.  Two zeroes have been placed before the number to make it long enough to check out books online using Libby.)

Any person living in Venus may apply to have a library card.  Please apply in person during Community Library Hours and present a picture ID with Venus address.  A card can be issued during the same visit and the patron can begin checking out materials.

Venus High School/Community Library Policies and Procedures

Checking out materials
  • To check out materials from the library, a student MUST have an ID card.  Only until ID cards are issued at the beginning of the year will the librarian type in a name or ID number.  Lost cards are replaced only after a $5.00 fee is paid.
  • If a student is new and does not have an ID card, he must provide his class schedule to the librarian, who will then provide an ID card.
  • Students may have up to three books out at a time.
  • Students may check out audio books.
  • The Check-out period for students is two weeks. Once a book is overdue or a fine is owed, the student may not check out additional materials until the book is returned or paid for.
  • Students may re-check a book one time, if there are no holds or fines on the book. A "hold“ is placed on a book when another student or community patron has requested the book.
  • Students may not check out reference materials or periodicals without special permission from the librarian.
  • If a student checks out a book for someone else that book becomes the student's responsible.
  • Do not give a book checked out in your name to another student to read. Check it in first and then your friend can check it out in his own name.

Video Check Out
  • Students may check out one video per day with a $5.00 deposit on file with the librarian.  The deposit will be returned at the end of the year or any time the students wishes to forfeit video check out privileges.
  • Video check out is for two days.
  • Students will not be allowed to check out R rated videos.
  • Students may check out videos only after the school day.

Using the Computer
  • A student may use the Internet only with a parent-signed Internet agreement form on file.  The forms are part of the enrollment packet.
  • A student may use the computers in the library with his ID card and if he owes no fines or has no overdue materials.
  • Do not save work to the computer. They are cleaned often. .  Any personal flash drive or other personal device must be scanned for viruses before use.
  • The librarian will assist students with questions about the computer or research
  • Notify the librarian before printing material.  A student may copy three school related pages per day free. After that each page is $.15.

Conduct in the Library
  • Students are expected to behave in a responsible manner while in the library, following all library and campus rules.  Library rules are posted.
  • No backpacks are allowed in the library.  They should be left in the classroom or taken to the locker. Backpacks should not be left in the hallway.  Librarians will not be responsible for backpacks.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the library except with special permission from the librarian.
  • If disruptive behavior occurs, the librarian will ask the student to leave the library and report to the office for disciplinary action.
